Hidden Norwich Foliage Yoga Hike

Enjoy the peace of the woods this Columbus weekend on this special, brand-new hike! We’ll get away from the crowds by starting our event on private land which has a terrific view of Cardigan Mountain and the Presidentials. Silver Lake Yoga Hike - FULL!

Come see fall foliage from one of Vermont’s most beautiful spots: Barnard’s Silver Lake. Motorized boats aren’t allowed on the water, so the area is tranquil and quiet. Even on this holiday weekend, most tourists don’t know about the fantastic trails behind the lake, where we’ll be hiking.  This moderate hike starts with an uphill climb but then flattens out as we visit the lakeside trails in the pine woods. We’ll stretch out our bodies using the natural props of tree logs, boulders, and rock walls.  Plan for a "cove yoga" session and a deep relaxation as we do our savasana lakeside in a pine grove.

We’ll park on the roadside, so be sure to get directions to our meeting spot when you register. It’s $25 for this two-hour event.  This event is full, but you can email me here to get on the wait list.

Rescheduled due to last week’s thunderstorm

Wouldn't it be great if there were somewhere quiet where we could hike in the woods all by ourselves, and stop to do yoga among the lush scenery and beautiful viewpoints, and then hop in a nice refreshing pond at the end?

Make the dream your reality by joining us for this favorite yoga hike right out my back door.  Yes, this time we'll explore the "ledges" in Barnard, VT where the rocky terrain supports a surprising amount of vegetation, wildlife, and a stunning view of Mount Ascutney.  Look for moose tracks as you practice walking meditation; be inspired by the mountain as you perfect your balance poses.  Know that we will hike undisturbed except for the occasional hawk flying overhead.

We'll conclude the hike with a relaxing pondside session of breath work and resting meditation.  For those who care to plunge, know that the mountain spring-fed pond has an outflow that keeps the water clear and clean.  You can change and peek inside a historic 18th-century farmhouse, and stick around to relax on the grounds.  Due to COVID safety measures, I have to limit the participants to 10 people so we can keep 6' distance and I don't lose anybody!  Save your space NOW by clicking below to pay the $25 fee, or by emailing me at amanda@innerliftyoga.com for other payment options.

Season's First Yoga Hike!

How happy am I that it's May at last and that Governor Scott just gave the go-ahead for small gatherings in outdoor places?!  Woo hoo!  And Yoga Hikes are a natural way to spend time with others outside while safely physically-distancing.

For our opening-season hike, we'll gather on a beautiful, secluded private spot where no one else will be hiking. This special hike includes an uphill trek through meadow and forest to a sculpture garden with an astounding view.  On the way up, we'll be using natural features as props and doing yoga poses & breath work to strengthen immunity.  We'll hike back downhill to a labyrinth, where we will be doing a powerful walking meditation.  Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds at the end of the hike.  Spend your Memorial weekend close to home with me and your fellow yogis in nature.  Because this is private land, you will receive directions to the site when you register.

So I can enforce the recommended 6' of physical distancing, I'm limiting this event to 10 people.  Save your space by pre-paying.  If we can't hold the hike due to inclement weather, or if you cannot attend due to illness, your money will be refunded.  The event is $25, and you can pay directly by clicking below, or through Venmo (@Amanda-Anderson-530), or by mailing a check to Amanda Anderson at P.O. Box 1152, Barnard VT 05031.

Labor Day Yoga Hike

HIKE IS FULL!

Saving the best for last this summer season - a Yoga Hike and labyrinth walk at a brand-new site! Leading Fields is a private short-term rental property in the hills just north of Woodstock. As the former estate of Barbara Kaufman, a Vermont sculptor, the site displays some of her sculptures that evoke the wonder of the natural world. After enjoying her sculptures, we'll convene for a yoga warmup, and then take an exhilarating hike uphill through the woods to the family cemetery marked with more sculpture and a stellar view. After a hilltop yoga session, we'll hike back down through woods and fields that continue to allow you a inspiring view of the area. We’ll have plenty of yoga moments both on the up and down hill hikes.

If this weren't enough, you will finish your experience with a silent walking meditation on the Leading Fields labyrinth. Labyrinth-walking meditation is a powerful tool for gaining insight into your life and purpose as we transition from summer to fall. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the event. Hike to the Star!

Get yourself moving on one of my go-to workout trails in the area: the Faulkner Cardio Trail.  Starting from the pleasant Faulkner Park, this trail winds up the south face of Mount Tom in 14 gentle curves that go to the South Peak.  We'll pass beautiful stonework, rock outcroppings, and benches on our way to the plateau with a lovely view of Woodstock Village.  After a rejuvenating yoga stop, we'll head up the last 100 yards of rock outcroppings to victory at South Peak.  You can event touch the Star that is turned on during the holidays!

A bit of history: this trail was built by Marianne Faulkner in the 1930s in memory of her husband.  She wanted to emulate the cardiac rehabilitation trails of the famous German spas where people from all over the world came to take "The Cure."  Cure yourself with this beautiful, mildly-challenging trail and the power of yoga.  To register, please use this link.  $25 event fee payable at the hike.  Hope to see you there!

Green Mountain High

Giant boulders draped in moss.  Massive rock outcroppings glistening with mountain runoff water.  The soothing sound of a stream flowing over rock.  Tree roots forming snakelike patterns.  A heart-stopping lookout over the mountains, inspiring one to claim dominion over humanity.  While these could be movie scenes, they are all in our backyard.

Join us as we foray through high-elevation hardwoods and spruce-fir-birch forests to the alpine terrain of the Green Mountain National Forest, with its surreal landscape of gnarled tree roots and lichen-covered rocks.  We'll hike up the Sherburne Pass Trail off Route 4 in Killington up to Deer Leap Overlook.  There, we'll practice yoga while gazing at an unforgettable view of the Coolidge Range, with Pico Peak front and center.  Along the way, we'll play with yoga on the boulders and use rock walls to support us with various poses.

This challenging hike goes through a 600' elevation change in 40-minutes hike time.  But if all those tourists from Mass can do it, so can you!  Preregistration is required to save your space; please email using this link.  $25 event fee payable at the hike.

Old Skyline to the Sky

Hike where the locals go!  The Old Skyline trail is famous in these parts for its remote beauty and access to magical lookouts.  This hike passes through two high meadows as we wend our way to the sky, where a natural yoga studio with rock floors awaits us.  In the wide-open space, we'll be doing heart-opening work through yoga asana and breathwork.  Get ready to embrace your highest self and perhaps receive mystical visions and/or blessings from the good spirits of the woods!  Throughout the hike, we will play on fallen logs and stone walls as part of the yoga adventure.  To register for this event, email me using this link; $25 event fee payable at the hike.

He-Art Opening Yoga Hike

To kickoff the 2017 Yoga Hike season, we're doing a special event which includes a Yoga Hike and private art tour at the Hall Art Foundation in Reading, VT.  Yes, you read right: yoga, the great outdoors, and art!!!!!!

Many things are paired with yoga these days, but art as well as poetry and music have a special resonance with the practice of yoga.  The fine arts, like many yoga practices, open the Anahata Chakra, the energy center at the heart.  We will focus our 75-minute Yoga Hike on Heart-Opening, and then tour this year's brand-new art exhibits at the Hall Art Foundation.  The hike takes place on their tranquil private property that encompasses pasturelands, woodlands, and a gorgeous waterfall on Knapp Brook, a tributary of the Black River.  Be ready to be comforted by the view of Mount Ascutney as we do our heart-opening work, and then soothed by the sound of the waterfall as we open the hips.

Pack a lunch to enjoy after the hike, when we will picnic together on a grassy knoll alongside the waterfall.  (Or inside the the Hall Art Foundation's new reception center, weather depending.)  Afterwards, one of the docents will take us on a private tour of their newest exhibitions, displayed in the renovated farmhouse and barns that give the Hall Art Foundation so much charm.  Be prepared for stunning works by contemporary artists including Robert Mapplethorpe and Jeff Koons as part of the "Hope and Hazard: A Comedy of Eros," the "Ready, Fire, Aim," and the David Shrigley exhibits currently on display.

Yoga is $25 and the tour is free.  Preregistration is required to save your space; please email amanda (at) innerliftyoga (dot) com to register.  Directions to the Hall Art Foundation and other pertinent information will be given to registered hikers before the event.  For more information about the Hall Art Foundation and the current exhibits, visit: http://www.hallartfoundation.org/exhibitions/current/vermont
