The transformative power of Kundalini Yoga is too magical to keep to myself, so I will be sharing information and an experience of this tool for change as one of the presenters at Summerfest.  This FREE local event is for Upper Valley healers and teachers to connect and join forces for good.  It's hosted by the Center for Transformational Practice, whose mission is to support the transition to a just and sustainable culture by advancing inner transformation as the foundation for positive social change.  With such a stirring mission, how could I resist?

Tree Lovers' Trek

Calling all Tree Huggers!  It's time to trek through Balch Hill Natural Area in Hanover, NH and visit some of the characters there, including a champion Red Oak made famous by its sheer size and staying power.  We will be playing with trees, mossy logs, and rock faces to deepen our yoga practice and open our hearts to the natural world.  We'll finish with a sweet relaxation on the high meadow, where we can enjoy the sweeping views of downtown Hanover and beyond.  Off the beaten path, these lush woods are perfect weekend retreat to provide a meditative experience.

Garden Yoga: A Meditative Walk

Join us for one of my favorite annual events - this FREE Meditative Yoga Walk at Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, New Hampshire, where the gardens are in bloom!  

We'll explore one of our area's many treasures - the home and gardens of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, one of our most revered sculptors.  His work, along with Mount Ascutney, provide a serene background for us as we practice gentle yoga poses, focus on our breath, and amble through the flower gardens and the bowling green. This event will include a quarter-mile hike along the park's Ravine Trail which has a short steep descent down to a quiet brookside path, and an ascent back up to the grounds to view Saint-Gaudens' striking temple.   

Sponsored by the National Park Service, this FREE yoga event is geared towards those who want a slower, more meditative experience.   The optional yoga poses will be at a beginner/easy level.  Registration is not required; simply meet us in the park's main parking lot at 10:00 by the kiosk. If you haven't visited this gorgeous site yet, no more excuses!

Yoga on the Appalachian Trail

If you haven't joined this fascinating hike, don't miss this chance!  This two-mile hike passes through red-pine forests, open hillsides, and goes along the "Old King's Highway," a historic farm road bordered by stone walls and ancient sugar maples.  The hike peaks at a cairn at 1713 feet with a panoramic view of the Green Mountains.  But the true "peak" is off the trail, when we take a short cut through the forest to use an old stone-wall barn foundation as a woodland yoga studio. 

Sponsored by the NPS, you can enjoy our national lands and participate in this Yoga Hike for FREE.  No yoga experience necessary, but due to the moderate climb, you will want to be at an average fitness level.  (If you're a regular walker, you will do fine!)  No registration required; simply show up at Billings Farm in Woodstock to catch the 10:30 shuttle.  Please contact me with questions or concerns, and I'll see you there!

From the Mansion to the Woods: NPS Yoga Hike

Celebrate Independence weekend at Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park in Woodstock, VT with a unique FREE double-header event: a tour of Billings Mansion followed by a Yoga Hike through the national park!  

Start your day at 9 am with "Breakfast at Tiffany's," a tour of the mansion and its fabulous Tiffany stained-glass windows.  Fuel up with coffee/tea on the mansion porch for the 10 am Yoga Hike, which will leave directly from the mansion.  Join us as we explore the National Park through the lens of yoga - this moving mediation will allow you to visit the less-traveled paths of the park such as the little-known Water Garden, North Peak, and One Less Traveled Trails.  Expect lots of great yoga stops and a relaxing meditation at the end of this FREE event sponsored by the National Park Service.

Saturday by the Lake

Life is short - include this Yoga Hike in your Saturday errands in West Lebanon!  Besides all its big-box stores, West Leb has this fantastic park which still contains evidence of its former life as a quarry: huge boulders which make great walls for yoga in the woods.  After an uphill hike to the lake, we'll begin our practice with a lakeside yoga warmup, followed by a lively hike through the woods around the water.  We'll take the time to play on the boulders, logs, and trees on this gorgeous, mossy hike; afterward, we'll do a nice long relaxation in the grass.  

Don't forget your swimsuit for a dip after the hike in the very swimmable lake! Yoga Hike Season Kickoff at Pico

I'm starting this year's Yoga Hike season on a brand-new trail that I learned about from a local hiker.  Branching off the Long Trail, this shortcut through the woods takes us up to the Pico "A" ski-lift with a gorgeous view of the Green Mountains and a yoga platform perfect for quiet meditation. If you've ever wanted to see what the ski hill looks like off-season, this is your chance!  

If you haven't hiked with me before, know that the event is a moving meditation you won't soon forget.  We'll begin with a yoga warmup at the trailhead, then venture uphill for about 30 minutes to the lookout point for a special meditation. Be ready for yoga along the way both up and down, and a sweet relaxation on the soft grass at the end.

40 Days of Yoga (In a Row!)

In the Kundalini yoga tradition, we are encouraged to practice the same sequence or meditation for at least 40 consecutive days to change a habit and create space for positive energy to enter our awareness.  After 99 days of doing the same mediation every day (my first round, I got up to 102), I can assure you that it works.  The sequence that I do has become a good friend and consistent ally to me, even - especially - on the days I don't want to do it.  Because I do it anyway.  

What would it be like to practice every day?  How would it change you?  If you have the desire to know more about yourself and what you can do, join me for daily practice starting on January 1 for a totally FREE independent study with support.

Peak to Peak at Mt. Peg

It's the last Yoga Hike of the season!  As part of Peak to Peak, a hiking event sponsored by the National Park Service, we will be hiking up Mt. Peg, one of the two peaks in Woodstock, Vermont.  This annual event begins at the charming village Green, where we will gather and then walk to the trailhead.  After a yoga warmup, we'll hike up the Summit Trail to the top for yoga along with complementary cider and treats as part of the event.  

Don't be intimidated - at 1080', "Mount" Peg is really more of a hill, though be prepared for an uphill climb as well as beautiful views of the Ottauquechee River Valley at the top.  We'll stop along this 2.5-mile trail for yoga and meditative moments, and end our adventure with a sweet relaxation at the trailhead.  Then you can walk back to the Green for a lunch of wood-fired pizza! 

No need to pre-register for this FREE hike sponsored by the NPS; simply join us on the Woodstock Green at 10 am.  Bring water and a mat or blanket for the final relaxation period. See you there!

Columbus Day on Bald Mountain

It's a holiday - take your practice a little farther afield for an incredible hike at Aitken State Forest in Mendon, VT.  I chose this trail because it's got not one, nor two, but FOUR vistas at rock promontories.  Yes - FOUR vistas!  We'll hike the Bald Mountain Trail, which circles Bald Mountain and offers views of Pico and Killington Mountains to the east, as well as the Green Mountains to the north, the city of Rutland to the west, and the Otter Creek and Cold River valleys.  No matter where you're coming from, it will be worth the drive.

At 3.5 miles, this is the longest Yoga Hike of the season, a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself into the woods.  We'll be doing yoga along the way, of course, and connecting with the best of ourselves.

Community Kundalini at Game Set Mat

Ever done yoga inside a clothing store?  Here's your chance - the good folks at Game Set Mat, a yoga and tennis store in downtown Hanover, will be clearing space between the racks for this by-donation class.  As part of Game Set Mat's monthly fundraising series, I will be donating the proceeds from this class to Vital Communities to help support their mission to enhance community and support small local businesses.

Annual Foliage Hike at Hawks' Hill

If I could only do one fall hike, this would be it!  At the end of a dirt road in East Barnard, this little-known trail promises a deep meditative experience.  We will hike up past ponds, a brook, and old stone walls to a plateau with a remarkable 360-view of the surrounding countryside.  Better yet, old horse stanchions at the top serve as yoga walls to help support our poses for the hilltop yoga session as we gape at the view.
